Creating links between activities

In a Time-Location schedule, links between activities define the logical relationships between different operations.

These links allow you to represent:

  • the sequence of works
  • dependencies between activities
  • succession constraints between crews

They therefore help structure the schedule and ensure the logical consistency of the workflow.

To create a link between two activities, first select the activities involved.

Hold the CTRL key on the keyboard and click successively on the activities to be linked.

The selection order is important:

  • the first selected activity is the predecessor
  • the second selected activity is the successor

This defines the direction of the link in the schedule.

Once the activities are selected:

  1. right-click in the Time-Location view
  2. select the Create link menu

Several options are available:

  • Link two activities

creates a direct link between the two selected activities

  • Link a sequence

automatically creates successive links between several activities

  • Link multiple activities

allows several links to be created simultaneously

Once created, the link appears directly in the Time-Location view as a segment connecting the two activities.

This link represents the logical relationship between operations and allows dependencies in the schedule to be quickly visualised.

Links help with:

  • analysing the logical sequence of works
  • identifying dependencies between crews
  • understanding the overall workflow of the project

After creating or modifying links between activities, it is necessary to recalculate the schedule so that dependencies are taken into account.

To do this, click the Reschedule button located at the bottom right of the interface.

Rescheduling allows you to:

  • recalculate activity dates
  • apply the constraints defined by the links
  • update the logic of the schedule

This operation ensures that the schedule correctly reflects the relationships between activities.

As with activities, links can be modified or deleted from the context menu accessible by right-clicking.

This allows the schedule logic to be easily adjusted when the organisation of the works evolves.

In a Time-Location schedule, it is recommended to create links in the direction of project progression to maintain a clear and logical reading of the schedule.
