Grouping activities
Grouping allows activities in the schedule to be organised according to a specific field.
Unlike sorting, which only changes the order of activities in the table, grouping creates additional visual levels in the Gantt chart.
This helps structure the schedule display and facilitates the analysis of activities.
Accessing grouping
To open the grouping settings:
- click the Group by button in the Gantt toolbar
The grouping configuration window will appear.
Defining a grouping
Grouping is based on an activity field.
To create a grouping:
- select a field from the list (for example: Zone, ID, activity type, etc.)
- optionally choose a colour
- click Add
The field will then appear in the list of active groupings.
Activities will automatically be grouped in the Gantt chart according to the value of this field.
Example of grouping
In the example shown:
- activities are grouped according to the Area field
- each zone becomes a grouping level
- activities belonging to the same area are displayed together
This makes it easy to visualise how work is distributed across the different project areas.
Removing a grouping
To remove a grouping:
- click the Remove icon in the list of groupings
The schedule display will then return to the standard organisation.
Grouping options
Two additional options are available:
No grouping
Disables all grouping and restores the standard activity display.
Show simple activities only
Allows structural activities to be hidden and displays only operational activities.
Difference between sorting and grouping
It is important to distinguish between these two features.
Sorting
- changes the order of activities in the table
- is performed by clicking column headers
Grouping
- creates visual categories in the Gantt chart
- groups activities according to a common field
Both tools can be used together to improve the readability of the schedule.
